Our Beliefs
The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) follows the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition, a 500-year-old monotheistic tradition within Vedic or Hindu culture.

Core Philosophical Tenets
The Philosophy of Krishna Consciousness
Krishna Consciousness is based on the essence of Vedic knowledge found in sacred texts such as the Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam. Its philosophy addresses the nature of the self, God, the material world, and how to achieve spiritual perfection.
The core practice of Krishna Consciousness is bhakti-yoga, the science of devotional service to Krishna (God). This path emphasizes direct personal experience of the Divine through loving service, rather than abstract philosophical speculation.
The Hare Krishna Maha-Mantra
Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna
Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare
Hare Rama, Hare Rama
Rama Rama, Hare Hare
This sixteen-word mantra is the core spiritual practice in Krishna Consciousness. It is a call to the Divine energy (Hare), to Krishna (the all-attractive Supreme), and to Rama (the reservoir of all pleasure). Chanting this mantra helps purify the heart and awaken love for God.
